The SHED BUILD Part 1
In this video, George and I tackle the deck that will be the foundation and floor of my new shed. George Vondriska came down from Wisconsin to lend a hand with this build and teach me some building fundamentals. This is a learning process for me, and I share a number of insights that I gained along the way! We started out by laying out the piers for the foundation and setting up the four corner posts, making sure each one is plumb. We then attach the rim joists, the middle joists, and then the flooring. If you're looking to quickly and efficiently build a solid structure for a shed or workshop!
Rough Turning Cherry
In this video, I take you through the process of rough turning some gigantic cherry logs. A significant amount of preparation goes into creating a hand turned wooden bowl. For starters, you have to find the log... and then there's the chainsawing process, the rough turning process, and the drying process - all of these happen before the bowl is ready for it's final turning.

Gigantic Table Turning
In this video, I take you through the process of turning a gigantic pedestal for a walnut table. I'm working with a local furniture maker here in Charleston, Robert Buxton of Holy City Reclaimed. We take a look at some of his process in glueing up the blank and talk about a couple of things that we do to make this turning as safe as possible. I will show some of the special tools and equipment that are needed to tackle something of this scale.
Knocking Down the Wall! Studio Renovation #1
This is the first in a series of renovation projects that I'll be tackling in my studio. I'll be taking out a wall to expand the space, and creating some much needed order and organization!

Woodturning A Spherical Box
Here’s how I make a spherical wooden box from start to finish. This box features an ebony handle, and a secret ebony finial on the inside! ! I'll be making the body of the box from local Bradford Pear wood. I'll show how I plan out the box and create templates, and how I use these templates to cut the piece accurately. I'll also show what you can do if you accidentally mismatch the inside and outside of the box. I'll show how you can quickly and easily use Krazy Glue fast drying wood glue to attach the finials.
Woodturning | Making an Ornament Stand
Here’s my woodturning process for my ornament stands! These sea urchin ornaments were something that I started making when I was selling my work at the Charleston Farmers Market. Some questions I routinely received were, “what is it?”, “what do I do with it?”, or “where do I put it?”. I’d encourage people to hang them different places and it seemed like customers wanted to keep them up all year as opposed to every holiday season on a Christmas tree. I needed to come up with a stand to show them off and it had to be something that was relatively simple and easy to make while still maintaining an elegant look to match the ornaments. This video will show you my process and how simple they are to make! Thanks for watching!
Woodworkers Nerd-out on Chairmaking
I’m in Nevada City, California visiting Tor and Robert Erickson of Erickson Woodworking. What began decades ago as a strong will to create fine woodworking and furniture, Robert forged a path of excellence in a time where resources and education on the subject were minimal. His son, Tor, spent his childhood around his father and within his father’s shop and inevitably became a partner in the business. Together, Robert and Tor create outstanding chairs, tables, and other unique, finely crafted furniture.
Mike Mahoney on Woodturning and Craftsmanship
I recently visited my friend Mike Mahoney in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of California where he and his wife, Jenni have a farm. Mike is a woodturner, primarily a bowl turner – and one of the most prolific bowl turners in the industry. He is also a farmer, wine maker, tree hunter, and birder. When I started turning ten years ago, Mike was someone I idolized in the field and hoped that one day, I might get to meet. He is well respected all over the world not only for the quality of his work but also for his teaching and demonstrating abilities. This was an exciting day for me – to visit his home and studio and share a bit of his story with you.
Woodturning Cross Country Tour
I promised on my channel that I would offer a look into what my life is like as a professional, full-time woodturner. In this past month of June 2019, I visited woodworking schools, furniture workshops, home studios, a tradeshow, and threw in a Segway tour at the end – and I want to share this journey with you.

Kokeshi Dolls with Cynthia Carden Gibson
This video is a little bit different as we're not showcasing a specific project but instead creating a little more of a "vlog" style video. I've been very busy with my life as a professional woodturner! This week, I had a grilled pizza party with some close friends this past Memorial Day, I had some birthday celebrations, stopped by the Spoleto Festival here in Charleston, South Carolina, and I had a visit from a very special friend, Cynthia Gibson, who I will introduce and talk with about her work in pyrography, Kokeshi dolls, as well as our friendship and how we got to know each other.
Bowl Turning Masterclass
This is my Bowl Turning Masterclass. It’s a three day class where students can build on and hone their bowl turning techniques – They make a whole lot of shavings, and leave with a few bowls of their own. Here we’re going to take an in depth look at what it’s like to teach and to attend one of my classes.
